China Daily is one of the main propaganda and cultural units in the central government. As a national English daily, China Daily has been pioneering and enterprising since it was founded in 1981. It has developed more than ten media platforms, including newspapers, websites, mobile clients, Facebook, Twitter, Weibo, WeChat and e-newsletter, with a total of more than 200 million media users. China Daily is an important window for China to go to the world and the world to know about China. It is also the preferred China English media for high-end people at home and abroad.
First, build a global and differentiated communication network
China Daily actively promotes the development and innovation of media integration, and has a communication system covering all continents built by paper media and digital media.
The China edition of China Journal was founded on June 1, 1981. Its readers are mainly high-end people from all walks of life, diplomatic envoys in China, representatives of international organizations in China, senior executives of multinational companies in China, media practitioners and people from various countries visiting China.
China Daily has 35 branches, reporter stations and 14 outlets in China.
On January 2, 2019, the China Journal International Edition was officially launched, and the international version of the website, client and social media accounts were also launched simultaneously, effectively integrating many overseas versions of the original American version, British version, European version, Asian version, Southeast Asian version, African version, Latin American version and Canadian version, highlighting China’s position, international vision and depth, and making every effort to tell the world about China and spread China. China Journal International Edition publishes 16 pages of daily newspapers from Monday to Friday, and adds 4 pages of 32 international weekend editions every Friday; Full-color printing in 33 printing spots around the world, with an average circulation of 300,000 copies, covering high-end readers in 63 countries and regions.
Overseas, China Daily has four command centers, namely Asia-Pacific Branch, Europe Branch, Africa Branch and America Branch, with reporter stations and offices.
Founded in 1997, China Journal Hong Kong Edition is the only English newspaper specially approved by the central government to be published in Hong Kong after the return of Hong Kong. At present, it has developed into a multimedia platform covering websites, social media and so on.
The 21st Century English Newspaper Department under the China Daily is mainly aimed at English learners from primary school students to senior high school students in China. At present, it has developed into an all-media educational institution and formed the brand of "21st Century English Education Media".
Second, improve the all-media and three-dimensional communication matrix
According to the requirements of the central authorities on promoting the development of media integration, China Daily has complied with the transformation trend of traditional media, vigorously promoted the all-media construction, reconstructed the production process of news editing, and formed an all-media and three-dimensional modern communication system.
China Daily, founded in 1995, is the earliest national media website in China. Now it has become a national comprehensive media website and the most influential English website in China. Besides the flagship website, it also has an international website to provide multimedia information services for netizens around the world.
While constantly improving its website construction, China Daily also launched an English client, and is committed to enhancing its influence on social media platforms, including overseas social media platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, micro-video, Facebook and Twitter. As of August 2019, the number of fans in Weibo has exceeded 45 million; Wechat has 6 million subscribers and more than 20 million download users worldwide, making it the only English news client with over 10 million downloads in China. The number of fans of Facebook account is 80 million, ranking second in the number of fans of global media accounts; Twitter account has 4 million followers.
Driven by the development of media integration, China Daily adheres to the concept of "content is king", closely revolves around the central government’s decision-making arrangements, tells the story of China, and conducts targeted public opinion guidance, which has significantly enhanced its international discourse power. It has become an important public opinion position for national publicity and one of China’s information sources with the highest reprint rate of overseas media. Committed to the "combination boxing" of in-depth interpretation of newspapers, real-time online publishing, rolling tracking of mobile media and deep interactive guidance of social platforms. Third, build an international and diversified communication channel
According to the needs of mass communication and the coverage of big countries, China Daily actively cooperates with international authoritative media to provide editions. As early as 1992, China was published [the predecessor of China Watch], which was distributed with the Issuer’s Reference Newspaper sponsored by the National Newspaper Association of the United States. At present, The China Observer cooperates with Washington post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times International Edition, Daily Telegraph of Britain, Sydney Morning Herald under Fairfax Group of Australia, le figaro of France, Business Daily of Germany, El Pais of Spain, Daily News of Japan, Russian newspaper, National newspaper of Thailand and Indonesian newspaper. More than 30 authoritative media in more than 20 countries, such as El Cronista, have conducted in-depth cooperation, presenting in seven languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese, with an average issue of 5 million copies, reaching opinion leaders of world powers and high-end readers in politics, business and academia.
In addition to cooperation in publishing, The China Journal also has more extensive exchanges with major global media, including Reuters, Associated Press, AFP, Tass, Russian News Agency Today, Bloomberg, BBC and so on.
In Asia, China Journal is a core member of the Asian News Alliance (ANN). The alliance consists of 24 authoritative media from 20 countries including China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and India. China Daily has carried out extensive interview cooperation, manuscript sharing and personnel exchange with ANN media members, covering 40 million readers in Asia.
Fourth, build a three-dimensional and diversified publicity platform
With the advantages of language and resources, China Daily has produced and published English official journals for important international conferences and activities held in China. As early as September 1990, our newspaper published full-color English Asian Games News for the Beijing Asian Games. In 1995, the English journal World Women’s Newspaper was published for the Fourth World Conference on Women. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2010 World Expo, the 2014 APEC Summit, the 2016 G20 Summit, the 2017 Belt and Road Summit Forum, the BRICS Conference, the Fortune Forum, the Internet Conference, the 2018 Boao Forum, the Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Forum, the Qingdao Summit of the SCO and the Import International Expo, China Daily published high-quality English journals.
