At about 14: 00 on April 1, a large number of floating white bubbles appeared on the Shenshanhe River in Chizhou City, Anhui Province, and some sections of the river were as high as one meter. Videos taken by local residents have aroused widespread concern on the Internet.

Subsequently, Chizhou organized relevant departments and experts to rush to the scene, and quickly launched emergency response and investigation and disposal work.

Today (2nd), the local government responded to the cause of the incident. The investigation shows that the foam on Shenshanhe River originates from the rainwater sedimentation tank in the mining area of Changjiu New Materials Co., Ltd. Due to the overload of the sedimentation tank, the drainage is turbid. At 13: 00 on the same day, Changjiu Company added water treatment flocculant polyacrylamide (PAM) at the inlet of sedimentation tank. Flocculants are not fully dissolved in the process of solution preparation, which leads to foam in the water body and floats and aggregates on the river surface.

Chizhou City said that after checking with flocculant manufacturers and consulting relevant experts, the flocculants used this time are widely used in international and domestic water treatment applications, including raw water treatment, sewage treatment and industrial water treatment, and are not dangerous goods. In the next step, the local government will continue to track and monitor the water quality of this section to grasp the water quality status in real time; At the same time, further in-depth investigation will be made, and the problems found will be dealt with seriously according to the law and regulations.
