Cctv news The first female dean of Peking University University of Economics in the past 100 years, the first female winner of "John Bickley Award", the highest honor in the international insurance industry, and the 2016 national March 8 Red Flag Bearer & HELIP; … Sun Qixiang’s label, each one is dazzling enough.

After going to the mountains, going to the countryside, working, and staying abroad, I have developed a "profound and simple" Sun Qixiang through my complicated and diverse life experiences. She is a well-known female face in economics, leading the frontier development of risk management and insurance in China, and writing inspirational poems about women’s growth and value realization.

The First Female Dean of Centennial College

"Once I decide to do something, I will go all out to do it as best as I can." Sun Qixiang, who is now over 60 years old, has walked calmly and solidly on the road of life.

In 1973, Sun Qixiang graduated from high school and went to the countryside. He was the first to leave work every day and the last to call it a day, and successfully joined the party. After returning to the city as an operator, I grew from an ordinary operator to a political cadre in just three years because of my excellent work.

While studying at school, Sun Qixiang’s potential as a "female schoolmaster" gradually emerged. In 1979, Sun Qixiang was admitted to the Economics Department of Lanzhou University, and then he made his mark in the economics field with a paper entitled "The fundamental way out lies in reforming the state ownership form". She studied under Professor Xiao Zhuoji, a famous economist, and graduated from Peking University with the status of "Top Ten Postgraduates in Peking University", where she stayed as a teacher.

In 1993, Peking University set up a major in insurance. She transferred from a familiar major in economics to a new major in insurance and went to the United States to study for one year. After returning from school, she refused the annual salary of 300,000 yuan offered by the headhunting company and took the post of insurance professional director with a monthly salary of more than 400 yuan.

In 2010, Sun Qixiang became the first female dean in the century-old history of Peking University University of Economics. She dared to take responsibility, be innovative and made remarkable achievements.

The insurance major of Peking University, for which she was the first director, was approved as a "characteristic major" of national "quality engineering"; The China Insurance and Social Security Research Center of Peking University, led by her, won the title of "Peking University Excellent Scientific Research Center" for three consecutive years; The book "Insurance" written by her has successively become a national planning textbook, with a second edition, and has been selected as a designated or recommended textbook by insurance finance majors in dozens of domestic colleges and universities.

She is also a familiar face in international academic exchanges. The only Chinese mainland scholar on the board of directors of the International Insurance Association, the first Chinese mainland scholar who was invited to read an academic paper at the annual meeting of the American Risk and Insurance Association (1996), and the first Asian who appeared in the journal of the American Risk and Insurance Association as a character. As the former chairman of the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Society, Sun Qixiang has made academic footprints all over the world and worked tirelessly to become an external pathfinder and leader of the risk management and insurance circles in China.

The true nature of teachers: training "capitalized people"

Sun Qixiang has many titles, but her favorite title is "teacher". She insists on starting classes every semester. She has taught thousands of students and taught more than 100 graduate students, many of whom have become pillars of all walks of life. Sun Qixiang’s understanding of education is "to cultivate and bring up people who are useful to society".

How to make a century-old college, the birthplace of economics in China, more brilliant after becoming the dean? She felt the heavy pressure.

Sun Qixiang often said that the goal of Jing Yuan is to inject excellent "genes" into future master scholars, entrepreneurs and politicians, but the first thing to cultivate is "capitalized people" with sound personality.

While "preaching and teaching", Sun Qixiang used various opportunities to "dispel doubts" for students. Although she is very busy at work, she still takes time to talk with her students and learn about their study and life. Her "dean’s mailbox" is open to faculty and students; "Dean’s Reception Day" once a month; Students’ academic papers are always full of her numerous corrections; She always replies to students’ inquiries in time and teaches her experience without reservation.

Some people say that no university in the world is so closely linked with the destiny of the world, country and nation as Peking University, and no school of economics of a university is so closely linked with the economic development of the country as Peking University School of Economics. Sun Qixiang asked himself: Peking University makes people stop at the mountain. What kind of stone have you added to this mountain? What kind of flow have you contributed to this sea? "Only by hard work and dedication can we be worthy of this honor and continue to write the glorious mission of the School of Economics for a hundred years!"

"Only when women stand on their own feet can they be stronger"

On the wall of the reception area on the first floor of Peking University School of Economics, there are pictures of the presidents (directors) of this famous university in various periods over the past hundred years. Sun Qixiang is the only female face.

She never stopped thinking about the value of women. "The value of women is the value of self-existence and self-realization." Sun Qixiang believes that today’s society provides many opportunities for women, and as long as they continue to work hard to do what they are interested in, they will certainly succeed. "Your attitude, not your talent, will determine your height." She exhorted her female compatriots on various occasions: be kind to yourself and always be grateful; Reflect on myself three times a day and think about whether I am hard enough and good enough; Do your best, live high’s wonderful.

Sun Qixiang’s favorite female qualities are: soft body but strong will, confident but humble and studious, resolute but gentle, independent but kind and easy-going. She has been trying to be someone she appreciates.

After more than 20 years of hard work, Sun Qixiang has become a recognized academic leader in the field of risk management and insurance in China, and has made outstanding contributions to the teaching, scientific research, international academic exchange, leading the construction of academic echelon and comprehensive academic influence of risk management and insurance.

On February 27th, 2017, the All-China Women’s Federation decided to award 10 outstanding women the honorary title of "National March 8th Red Flag Bearer", including Sun Qixiang. (Editor/Yu Xiaodan Internship Editor/Xu Keyue Acknowledgement/All-China Women’s Federation Propaganda Department)
